_relaxation space: development of meeting place 'outside meets inside'

_relaxation spaces: understanding

this is my last space i have designed, and is intended to be the most in depth in regards to the idea. it is based around the meeting of outside comforts in an inside environment. i have done some mind mapping and research into what the difference between outside and inside is, and have decided that outside is uncontrollable especially with regards to the elements, whereas inside is a much more controllable space. but people often find comfort and relaxation in various parts of the 'outside experience' such as the sound of the wind howling, rain on the roof, smell of the flowers, sight of the ocean, and touch of the forest floor. through my design i have taken the 4 senses of touch, see, hear and feel and dedicated a space each for them. users are able to relax in these simple spaces at their control.

_meeting place: man made meets nature x boatshed wintergarden

This space for me is about bringing the elements of nature, most commonly known as forest life, vegetation and green space and combining it with a man made structure. For the most part, a garden and it's elements such as the trees and plants are often seen to exist by themselves, using the ground as a bed, rain as food, and the sky as a roof. By bringing the garden inside, it allows for users to experience a range of plant life and species either not known to the area or not able to grow in a normal outdoor climate. The modern man made technologies of irrigation systems, heating/artificial lighting and monitoring systems will ensure the 'nature' grows well within the man made space. While for the most part I explore only one 'boat shed' the winter garden comprises of a range of rooms and spaces which include temperate spaces, for plants at 24degrees, and a tropical space, for plants at 28c. All of these spaces are linked with a single path, with seating along the way so that users can stop and enjoy.

_boat terminal: material detail

have cut up some textured green material to get an idea of how my 'green wall' would look that is featured in my boat terminal. due to the inside nature it is necessary that it is artificial but the green colour helps envoke feelings of freshness and calming the nerves.
